History

British Shorthair kittens are one of the cat breeds with a mildly unknown history though most breeders believe that British Shorthairs were frequently seen in Britain starting in the mid-1800s. Appearance

British Shorthair kittens are generally round in all of their features including their face, eyes, ears, torso and even paws. Although British Shorthairs generally have a blue coat, they can also come in almost 40 different patterns and colors. Although their fur is short, British Shorthairs may have more fur per each square inch than the other kitty breeds. Generally female British Shorthair cats will range in weight from 6 to 8 pounds while males will range from 10 to 12 but there are several varieties of the breed which can weigh less.

Health

British Shorthair kittens are one of the kitty breeds that can take a long time to reach maturity, up to 5 years in this case. The good news is that due to their short fur, they only need to be combed a few times a week. British Shorthair cats are, however, at a higher risk of hip dysplasia and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy than other cat breeds so if you adopt a British Shorthair, be sure to schedule regular visits to the vet.

Personality

British Shorthair kittens are very intelligent and loyal. They enjoy being with others, whether they are other pets or their humans and are one of the kitty breeds that loves spending time on their human’s lap. Keep in mind, however, that British Shorthair cats can be very trusting so they should never be outside without supervision as they can get hurt easily. This is one of the cat breeds that will do well with almost any type of family although they prefer quiet households.
