The Himalayan cat (known in Europe as the colorpoint Persian) makes a wonderful pet, more than happy to stay in not only in your company but in your lap. Sweet tempered, they are calm and gentle but have a lovely playful side as well, happy to toss a cat toy or simply chase a ball of paper for hours.

Where does the Himalayan/ Colorpoint Persian come from?
The Himalayan cat originates from Persia (now Iran and Iraq) where the cats had a longer coat. The breed was brought to Europe by the Phoenicians and the Romans.

The Himalayan cat body characteristics include:
- Medium to large in size.
- Cobby body type.
- Large head with a thick neck.
- Large round eyes set far apart.

- The tail is thick and short but perfectly in proportion with the body.
- Extremely long fluffy fur.
- Dark blue eyes.
The Himalayan cat is very much a Persian in body and coat but the pattern, color and striking blue eyes of the Siamese. The body of the Himalayan cat should be a uniform color with the points on the ears, legs, feet, tail and face.
They come in a wide variety of colors beginning with seal, blue, chocolate and lilac points. Following on cam the tortie and flame points, blue-cream, cream, and lynx. The Himalayan cat should you choose this for your pet or you may wish to show your animal is a serious commitment to take on as they require grooming as much as three times a day a baths can be required up to every other day.
History of the Himalayan/ Colorpoint Persian?
The Himalayan cat is a man made breed between a Persian and Siamese. The Persian for the body and longhaired coat and Siamese for the striking blue eyes and variety in colour.
